Kickstarter: A Collection of My Favorite Memories

A Collection of My Favorite Memories is a journal for anyone who wants to preserve their favorite memories throughout their life. This journal grew out of very personal needs. Even though I write a journal regularly, it is sometimes hard for me to track my progress when I revisit past memories. Because my records are basically dispersed in a large amount of text. So I started to find a better way to document my life over time. Finally, I created a special journal that guides people to record their favorite memories in an organized way. I launched this journal on Kickstarter and the project successfully raised $2,510 with 83 backers. Also, this project was selected as a semifinalist in the 2016 Adobe Design Achievement Awards.

How can we improve journaling experience
Life goes fast. Even though you have a really great experience, it’s easy to forget this experience over time if you
don’t have a record of it. However, writing journals is not easy these days because we are BUSY.
Also, traditional journals are not good for retrieving past memories due to large number of entries.
Find a better way to preserve our memories
in an efficient and organized way
I came up with three initial ideas: Annual report about me, 60 Years letter, and journal for “Favorites”.
I had a feedback session with design professionals at Orbital.
What if we record only our favorites things over time?
Through feedback session, I learned people usually want to keep their favorite memories more than their routine.
I did a quick survey to see what kinds of favorites people want to record and categorized them into several themes.
Based on this, I made a second prototype which provides various templates for different topics.
Simplify, Simplify, Simplify
The feedback I got for the second prototype was that various templates for different topics
were overwhelming or that they were limiting and did not apply to certain situations.
So I revised it to universal templates so that users can customize it according to their interests.

Making a perfect sample
To launch this project on Kickstarter, I made a sample to see its exact look and feel.
80lb, 24lb high quality paper and a sewn binding method was used in this phase.

Share this unique collection with your family, your friends, and even future generations.
Beautiful, simple, easy-to-use layouts help you organize your memories well.

This journal offers two templates: make a list, or leave detailed notes. How you fill them in is totally up to you. This journal is designed to be customized easily based on your own interests.

The first template is a simple list : Fill this up quickly with your favorites. Choose any subject you like: movies, music, books, etc. Use the list template for only a certain category of memories, or collect as many types of memories as you want within the lists.

The second template allows you to take detailed notes. Describe your favorite memories in greater detail here. The more details you record, the clearer your memory in the future!
